The end of the INF Treaty
The consequences for nuclear armament control in Europe
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
The decision by the US to withdraw from the INF Treaty presents Europe with problems. America could develop new medium-range missiles and station them in Europe. Such rearmament could trigger conflicts within the Alliance. In order to maintain the unity of NATO, the Europeans should exert political and economic pressure on Russia, while at the same time also considering countermeasures that fall below the threshold of new INF rockets.
