“I’m an Ill-tempered Miscreant”
Extremism among Youth as a Literary Phenomenon
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
Radical is chic in Russia. This is especially true for literature. Authors from the national-Bolshevik and the left-wing autonomous camps have drawn a great deal of attention to themselves with the aesthetic ideal of rebellious youth. Their novels stylize violence, hatred, and nihilism and are therefore controversial. They are successful within Russian mass culture, because they are provocative and nonetheless manage to leave a back door open.
