Privatisation Plans, Power Struggles, Instability
Russia’s Oil Industry in the Putin Crisis
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
The Russian oil industry is heading for hard times. In addition to the poor situation on the world market comes political instability in Russia. Both factors exacerbate the power struggle among Moscow’s top leaders over how to handle this key sector. The liberals argue for privatisation; the conservatives thwart such plans. Central issues are at stake: the transformation of political into economic capital and the protection of property rights.
