Abstract
Like no other Russian writer and thinker, Lev Kopelev profoundly influenced the political culture and general public of the Federal Republic of Germany. He wrote history in the Germans’ image of Russia. His work, his life, and his person grew into a message of humanity. His struggle for truth, for the courage to protest and walk upright, and for responsibility for others are moral and political values that remain relevant to this day.
