The 20th Century and the “War of Memories”
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
The 20th century left deep wounds in the memory of the peoples in East and East-Central Europe: The revolutions, dictatorships, world wars, National Socialist subjugation, and the Holocaust are unforgotten. Every society remembers and processes its own experiences in its own way. Frequently, the memory of one people contradicts that of another. If one encounters these contradictions with understanding and responsibility, they can enrich the historical consciousness of every society. But a platform is needed to conduct a dialogue on such conflict-laden issues. MEMORIAL is calling for the formation of an International History Forum.
