Abstract

Even though hardly any attention was paid for decades to the fate of former forced labourers under Nazism, in 2000 funds provided by the government and German industry were used to set up the Foundation for Memory, Responsibility, and the Future. The goals of the foundation are to give expression to Germany’s political and moral responsibility for the victims, and to make payments to individuals. 1.6 million people have so far received a total of 4,154 billion euros.
